MANAGEMENT

Practice Manager

Rachael Sowerby, Practice Manager

I have been with the Wilson Practice since February
2023 and work full time. I have worked within Primary care since 2012 within a variety of locations.  I completed a Mini Masters in Business Administration and a various NHS Leadership programmes.

As Practice Manager, I am responsible for the day to
day running of the practice.  This includes recruitment, finance, patient satisfaction, contract management and HR to name a few.  My role is greatly supported by a wonderful team and would be impossible to complete
without them.

I enjoy spending my free time with family and friends, foreign travel and cruising as well as the next best Netflix series.

I live in Botley, Southampton with my husband, children and 3 dogs.

Deputy Practice Manager

Karen Lynam, Deputy Practice Manager

I joined The Wilson Practice in May 2007 as a part time administrator.  As my family grew older, I became a full-time member of Admin and became Deputy Practice Manager in May 2021.

My job can vary from day to day.  Duties include Chronic Disease Recall, helping Admin Team with filing, scripts, registrations.

I assist the Business Manager/ Practice Manager as and when necessary. Resolve problems/complaints with staff and patients and escalate to the Business Manager/Practice Manager as and when appropriate.

In my spare time I enjoy socialising with friends and more recently looking after my Granddaughter.

Reception Manager

Sharon Stevens, Reception Manager

I worked as a Receptionist for a few years, before taking-on my current role. which is a very busy - helping answer the phones, assisting with GP rotas and supporting the wider practice  - as well as my team..

My hobbies outside of work include spending time with my family, reading ,fishing and swimming. I enjoy going out for meals with my friends and family.

ADMINISTRATION

image receptionist on the telephone

We have 9 receptionists, 2 secretaries and 6 administration office staff.  We also have a ubiquitous support officer who performs functions including  photocopying, tea-making and a variety of screwdriver-centred operations.

The reception team answers the phone and greets you when you walk through the door. They have the impossible task  of making the appointment they need or want, as soon as they want it - without overloading the doctors or nurses - whilst still managing a smile.

They also book patient transport, arrange clinics, maintain records, tidy records - and make tea!

Our secretaries write 3000 letters a year, referring patients to hospital and make innumerable phone calls in trying to speed-up those referrals. Another 1000 more letters go to patients offering clinic and review appointments.

Administration staff maintain the computer system and respond to  on-going requests for information. We write/ print all repeat prescriptions, scan letters into patient records, summarise medical records as they arrive and process insurance reports.

They also pay all the bills, chase outstanding invoices and ensure that we have all the drugs, dressings and other materials that everyone needs to do a first-class job.
